G1000

G1000

Ok, so it’s only been about 5 1/2 months since the last post.  Quite a lot has happened in that time.  I’ve been flying like crazy and finished up my instrument rating in March.  I did the majority of my instrument training in a Diamond DA40 equipped with the incredible Garmin G1000.

In February I was involved with the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games.  I was the Technical Coordinator for the Floor Hockey Venue.  It was an amazing experience and one that I hope I can repeat in the future.

Our 5 on 5 hockey team had what would qualify as an abysmal season and it’s better that that is now behind us.  School went well for the 2nd semester and 32 credits are now on the books.  I’m, surprisingly, maintaining a 3.89 GPA and anyone who knew me back in high school would be surprised, but I hated Baker City and the school, so at that time in my life, I just really didn’t care.  Long back story that isn’t relevant here.

I’m still looking for a job and that, as you can imagine, has added a tremendous amount of stress to life.  My wife has been tremendous and I couldn’t be happier with her for her support.  Having a deep resume and an arsenol of skills has only made me “overqualified”.  I can’t tell you how much I hate that phrase now.  If I apply, then I’m willing to work for you, so take advantage of my qualifications.

The kids are doing great and getting ready to finish up the 7th & 5th grade.  Scary how quickly they grow.  I miss them desperately when they’re not here and can’t wait for their next visit.

The Stanley Cup playoffs are into their second game and my Red Wings are up 2-0 in the series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.  The series is far from over and there is still a long way to go, but I’m hoping the Wings are able to repeat as champs!!

I’ve just recently joined a flying club in Nampa to acquire access to an affordable airplane.  I’m flying a Cessna 120.  It’s a conventional gear (tailwheel) aircraft and you have to really fly well to operate one, some the experience is amazing.  I’m trying to build time towards my commericial rating which will allow me to get paid to fly.  Now I just need the economy to come around.  :)
